As the dust settles on the 2016 presidential election, many are left wondering what the final popular vote totals will look like for both major candidates. However, it's important to note that the outcome of the election won't be impacted by a recount until all results have been canvassed at the local level.

In Michigan, where Hillary Clinton trails Donald Trump by 10,704 votes, an automatic recount is triggered if one candidate's lead is less than 2,000 votes. However, this isn't the case here, and there is no evidence that either campaign is planning a recount.

Despite Clinton's narrow popular vote margin - she currently leads Trump by just over 0.7% with 61,781,190 votes compared to his 60,850,366 - her chances of winning through a recount are slim. The popular vote was indeed narrow in some states, but even if Clinton were able to knock off one or two of these states, it would not be enough to change the outcome of the election. As of November 14, the National Popular Vote Tracker had Clinton leading by a margin of 0.7%, compared to the 3.9% Democratic popular vote edge in 2012. While this is certainly a narrow margin, it is unlikely to impact the outcome of the election.
